The Choir’s Trip To The Cathedral

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

On Friday 8th July we went to Derby Cathedral to perform with nine other schools from around Derby. We performed five different songs Together, Seek Ye First, Dona Nobis, Pop Idol and I can see clearly now. We had been practising very hard and a lady called Melanie from Derby Music Partnership came in to rehearse with us.

While we were at the Cathedral, Peter the organist told us all about the Organ and played us a piece of music, also we heard the Cathedral choristers perform and a group of clarets. Lots of our parents came to watch the concert and thought we sounded beautiful.

Strawberry Treat!

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

All the staff were invited for a special treat the last week of term – we had strawberries, cream and home-made shortbread!

The Learning Mentors chose a group of pupils to shop for strawberries, cream and the ingredients for the shortbread, they then made the shortbread, whipped the cream and   prepared the strawberries, all supervised by Jill our lovely cook.

The staff were seated at a table, laid with a snowy white, crisp tablecloth and served by the children, silver service style! It was enjoyed by all and ooh did we feel posh!

Class 12 are back to the future!

In Year 6 we have had a Caribbean day with an African lady called Bema. During this event, we did food tasting and tasted food such as: chickpea sauce with dough bread; plantain and sweet potato crisps and much more.  As well as this, we did Caribbean dancing and we thought this was fun and interesting as it’s very different from our dancing in England.

We have also been practising for sports day by doing different races and timing each other.  A lot of fun was had – diving for the finishing line, flying plimsolls and plenty of speed! Watch out everyone, Class 12 are determined to win!

This week was the last time we put quality work into our Special Books.  We are all very proud of these books and will look fondly back at our time at Oakwood and the super work we produced.

In class we have been completing a memory sheet of our time at Oakwood Junior School, which included our favourite memories and funniest moments etc.  To celebrate our time at OJS, we are putting together a leaver’s performance too!
