School Council

Tuesday, July 15th, 2014

School council arranged a beach party on the 14th June. Loads of people came in their cool beach clothes.
The lucky 24 children got a prize for the best costume. Some children brought a bucket & spade. We raised £315 for guide dogs for the blind. Thank you for making it a successful day.

On Thursday, twelve of us represented Oakwood at the athletics event at Moorways. The sun was shining and we were very excited about competing. On the track we did really well. Brooke came first in the 300m . Will came second in the 150m sprint and Jack D came first in the 75m sprint. The field events were also looking good. Luke T and Jess threw the furthest in the shot putt event and Jack and Luke performed brilliantly in the javelin. Will, Mason, Brooke, Courtney, Ellie J and Tegan all jumped magnificently in the long jump and the triple jump. All of our results were put together and we achieved bronze position. There were 24 schools who signed up for the event so we were really pleased with third place.

Kwik Cricket

Monday, July 7th, 2014

After coming first in the city finals for kwik cricket, we qualified for the county finals at Derbyshire cricket ground. We won two matches and lost one, which got us through to the final against Dale. It was a tough game and both teams played brilliantly. Dale won but we were thrilled to be the silver medallists! Second best cricket team in Derbyshire!!!

Just an update about how we got on at the netball regional finals last week.
There were ten teams there altogether from all over the East Midlands. We were nervous but really excited at the same time. Miss Lawrence, who was even more nervous than us, gave us a team talk at the start of the day to help motivate us. Our first game was against Osmaston Primary, who beat us in the County Final, so we were a little bit worried. But we didn’t need to be – we beat them easily! We went on to play the rest of our matches and only lost once.

We anxiously waited for the results about whether we had done enough to get a medal. Amazingly, we came second and were awarded silver medals. What a fantastic day! Second best team in the East Midlands!!

We would just like to thank Miss Lawrence, Mr Higgins and Miss Harris for supporting us and helping us achieve this.
